Construction has begun on a new water well for Koafuni Village, Upper Sandor Chiefdom Kono, Sierra Leone .Koafuni is a small remote village located in Upper Sandor Chiefdom with approximately 700 residents from about 90 houses, that wholly depends on farming for their survival. There are no minerals in this village, so the only work available is farming for personal consumption and not commercial farming. Currently, there is not a water well in the village. All the water needed for bathing, cooking and drinking is carried in containers from the river, that is shared with the grazing cattle and other animals. The river is polluted from mining activities upstream that don't allow fish to survive. The village is very remote and only accessible by motorbike with Koidu being the closest city at 1.5 hour ride along a treacherous route. You can click here to read more.
